Silicon carbide

Often called «carborundum», the silicon carbide is one of the hardest artificial grits.
Color : grey/black, shiny, ideal for :

various lapping
work on glass
work on cast iron
polishing stones
cooperage,...

INFO: The size of the abrasive grit is defined by its dimension and expressed in fractions of an inch.

For example the grit 36 is obtained by passing through a sieve presenting 36 meshes in a inch. (25,4 mm).

This explains why a coarse grit is specified with a small number and a fine grit with high number.

Cold glue

The only one which is suited for gluing abrasive grits on felt and polishing wheels.

Cerium oxide in powder

Very soft, for the final polishing of glass, optics, etc.
